COME ON LET ME TAKE YOU ON A SEA CRUISE
Edited By Lois-Ann Clark, Publisher - AA Boomers
“Ooo we. Ooo we baby, ooo we, ooo we baby, won’t you let me take you on a Sea Cruise?” If you remember those lyrics,, then you are just the right age to qualify for the travel club, Blacks Over Forty At Sea. Founded in December 1999 as a Yahoo Group to provide a dignified and respectful place on the internet where Black men and women over the age of 40 could meet, connect, and network through common interests: Because the online group wanted to further connect with other Black men and women on a broader level Blacks Over 40 was incorporated as a non-profit organization.
The mission of Blacks Over Forty (BOF) At Sea is to provide a venue where Black men and women over 40 can, through social interaction, share the expertise and information they bring from their diverse fields and backgrounds. The focus is on health and social issues, financial matters, education, employment and all that is relevant to achieving and maintaining a high quality of life in our community, and the African American community at large.
Many of our guests and others have asked that we add other itineraries to our annual Caribbean cruise," stated Myrtle Naylor, Cruise Coordinator So, last year, in addition to their annual Caribbean cruise, Blacks over 40 at Sea added a Southbound Alaskan cruise in their 2009 schedule. ”Friends of Blacks Over 40” sailed July 15, 2009 aboard The Carnival Spirit. and cruised for 7 days through some of the most spectacular scenery on earth, such as the Inside Passage, which is the longest sheltered inland waterway in the world. The cruise sailed across the Prince William Sound, the amazing body of water that hosts the largest concentration of glaciers in Alaska; and Lynn Canal, the longest glacial fjord in North America where you will find hanging glaciers, towering waterfalls and majestic mountains.
,"We will still continue our annual cruise but will also add other cruises in the future, such as Europe and Hawaii,” added Naylor. “The Friends of Blacks Over 40 at Sea will offer be no-frills cruises, without the added entertainment and activities,”
In addition to its cruises, throughout the tear, BOF hosts an annual cruise and 'Meet and Greets' in different US cities. Members and their friends have the opportunity to meet and network on a face-to-face basis with others. Our activities are open to everyone in the over 40 Black community.
Going forward, Blacks Over 40 will be enhancing the above purpose through an interactive website, an e-zine, newsletter and the formation of local BOF chapters. This year, Blacks Over 40 will sail through the Caribbean on the Carnival Victory from September 5th -12th with seven ports of call, first stopping San Juan the visiting ,St. Lucia, Dominica, Barbados, St. Lucia, St .Maarten, and St Kitts returning to San Juan on the seventh day.
